Da Roolz 2014??

Post by upduck on Mon Sep 30, 2013 11:12 am

Here is the first draft for the 2014 Competition, assuming we are all still gonna be doing it. Notes at bottom explaining the amendments, including the contentious one about week wins.

Champion Tipster Competition 2014

Daily Tipster Competition

This will run from Monday to Saturday each week, with the occasional Sunday thrown in when some of the big meetings run into Sunday. There may be the odd meeting from Ireland as well. Entrants will be informed well in advance so they can participate if they want.
Entrants can select however many or few selections that they want, but there is a change to the bonus's because of this.
The rules are relatively simple.
Just pick your horses and post them in the relevant thread. Don't forget to add your 'NAP' as this counts as double S/P if it wins.
Races are settled to a £10.00 stake and non-runners stakes are returned. You may back your selection each-way. This will be settled at £5.00 each way and will be settled at 1/5 odds for placed horses in all races.

Selections can be amended up until the start of the race, the post time will be the judge for any queries for late entry against the advertised racetime, not the 'OFF' time.
Each weeks winner will be entitled to select a 'NEXT BEST ('NB')' for the whole of the following week, this will be settled at S/P plus 50% if it wins. However, if the NAP wins then the NB is settled DOUBLE the S/P. A 'NAP' must be selected before a 'NB' can be selected.
In the event of a tied week, all those tied for First will be entitled to a 'NB'.

EACH-WAY RULE - Entries made before 12.00 pm (midday) will qualify for 'each-way non-runner protection.' This means that if there is a non-runner(s), after the selections have been posted, which reduces the field to less than 8 (for 1-2-3) or 16 (for 1-2-3-4) you will still get points for the 3rd/4th place.

WEEK WIN BONUS
To qualify for win bonus, a minimum of 20 selections must be made OR selections made on 3 days in that week.
£100 PLUS £10 for each winner will be added to winning total. (if qualified)

TOP-TIPPING BONUS
The minimum number of selections at any meeting should be 4. Non-Runners count towards minimum selection total but for obvious reasons will not count towards the bonus.
For each separate meeting where 4 or more selections have been made, the following bonus could be applied.

WINNING SELECTIONS
4 winners at one meeting = £75.00
5 winners at one meeting = £100.00
6 winners at one meeting = £250.00 (if 7 or more races)
Through the card = £1000.00 for 6 winners (plus £100.00 for each winner over 6)
i.e... 7 race meeting - 7 winners would net £1100.00 bonus.

PLACED SELECTIONS
4 selections finishing in a qualifying place position = £10.00
5 selections finishing in a qualifying place position = £25.00
6 selections finishing in a qualifying place position = £50.00 (if more than 6 races)
Through the card (7 or more) in a qualifying place position = £250.00

Qualifying place positions are where the bookies pay a place, as per general rules, except for 5 runners or less when a second should qualify.
less than 7 runners = first 2 places.
more than 8 runners = first 3 places.
Handicaps with 16 or more runners = first 4 places.

If there is a split (4wins/4 placed. 4/5. 5/4 etc) bonus goes to the one with the most. i.e most wins - win bonus. For a 50/50 split. the WIN bonus will apply.

END OF YEAR REWARDS.
1st - £5000.00
2nd - £2500.00
3rd - £1500.00
4th - £750.00
all other entrants will receive £500.00

Naps Competition

Entrants into the Daily Tipster Competition can nominate one of their horses as their 'Nap of the Day'. If this horse wins, the S/P is doubled when settling in the Daily Tipster Competition.
The rules for the Top Napster Competition are simple really.
Take the daily nap from each member and......
calculate the winning naps odds to a £1 stake and add to the table.
selections =
winners =
winnings =
profit/loss =
Non-Rnrs =

non-runners = returned stake.

Entrants do not have to pick a 'Nap' each day. But in the interests of fairness, a MINIMUM OF 50 SELECTIONS need to be made during the year to count towards the competition.
Only selections made in the Daily Tipster Competition will count towards the Naps competition.

The winner will be the person with the biggest profit (or lowest loss).
In the event of a tie, the highest number of winners will decide the places.

END OF YEAR REWARDS
1st - £1500.00
2nd - £750.00
3rd - £400.00
4th - £250.00
all other entrants will receive £100.00

BONUS
Number of winners x 10  (amended)

Big Race Competition

During the year, there are many 'Big Races'. These are generally Group races on the Flat or Grade 1 races on the Jumping circuit. This competition aims to cover as many of these as possible.

So here's how it works.......
Pick 3 horses for each big race in the order you think they will finish.
For each selection that finishes in the position forecast, the S/P is doubled before settling.
The settling would work as follows from there.
1st - 100% of S/P
2nd - 50 % of S/P
3rd - 25 % of S/P
Add together and Settle to a £10 stake

BONUS
Select 1-2-3 in correct order and the following bonus will be added
Less than 8 runners - 25% of winnings added to total
10 - 15 runners - 50% of winnings added to total
16+ runners - 100% of winnings added to total

END OF YEAR REWARDS
1st - £1000.00
2nd - £500.00
3rd - £250.00
4th - £100.00
all other entrants will receive £50.00

BONUS
For each correctly forecast winner, total number will be multiplied by 10 and added to final total
For each correctly forecast second, total number will be multiplied by 5 and added to final total

Major Race/Festival Competition

On days where there are more than 3 big races or one of the festivals is taking place (Goodwood, Royal Ascot etc), whether at the same meeting or around the country, this competition will run. I think that covering as many of the big/major races during the season is important so this competition should help that.
RULES
One selection for each race.
S/P is converted to points. The points are added together and settled to a £10 stake.
Winner - settled at S/P
Placed(2nd/3rd) -- 25% S/P (3rd place counted regardless of number of runners, 4th place counted in 16+ runner handicaps)

BONUS
100% winners = Points total doubled before settling.
When there are more than 5 races covered - 100% placed = points total + 50%

END OF YEAR REWARDS.
1st - £1000.00
2nd - £500.00
3rd - £250.00
4th - £100.00
all other entrants will receive £50.00

BONUS
For each winner during the year, total number will be multiplied by 10 and added to final total.

Sooooo,the amendments explained..............................
1 - Have made a change to the NEXT BEST rule. Leaving it as S/P plus 50% but making it DOUBLED S/P if the NAP wins.
2 - The week win bonus..........we currently pay two bonus's for a week win, which seems daft. So i thought we could scrap the weekly £500 AND £100 payments and changed the way it is calculated to make one bonus which could be added to the total at the end of the week.
3 - Think we should keep the minimum selection rule as it is. Could adjust it slightly i suppose. Also scrapped the lower bonus for win with a MINUS score. It is a win whether a profit or loss is made.
4 - Changed the Unlucky loser bonus to Top-Tipping bonus and adjusted upwards the WIN part of this to reflect how hard it is to find 4 plus winners at a meeting.

I think it is important that we allow people to make as many or as few selections as they want with penalising them. By changing the week win calculation, i think i have made it fairer for all. It stands to reason that the more selections you make the more you stand to lose, or the fewer you make the less you stand to lose. On the reverse of that, the number of winners should rise with the number of selections generally speaking. A much fairer system methinks.

Okey-Dokes......thoughts? Suggestions and further amendments or additions welcome. Very Happy

It's all great, Steve, just the £500 extra weekly winners bonus was initiated to give more clout to the main comp value - without it, and noticing the rewards on the main comp, (£3,000 1st place etc), haven't been increased, we'll return to the other sub-comps outweighing their significance in the final positioning.
If this is the intention then fine, otherwise it might be suitable to increase the main comp rewards.

Cheers Charles, good point. Not the intention but the overall comp was suffering a bit with the £500 win bonus, which we got despite the qualification rules needed for the weekly win bonus in the comp itself. I have amended the prize money which should help balance things out.
Any further thoughts folks??

can I just clarify the following sentence;

TOP-TIPPING BONUS
The minimum number of selections at any meeting should be 4.

Does this mean that in *general* - there shouldnt be less than 4 selections in any one meeting? .. OR .. that you only qualify for the "TIP-TOPPING BONUS" if you have 4 or more selections in a meeting?

Apart from that, Im happy.

Cya!

You only qualify for the bonus if you select 4 runners or more at a meeting Hugo. Hope that clarifies it.  Very Happy

One question, Steve, on the weekly winners bonuses, the £10 per winner bonus, it's only the week's winner who receives it, not everyone, correct?
(I'm sure this is what you intend - just would like clarification, please).
